The successful applicant for the role of eforensic examiner will be trained to recover data from seized devices, and provide this data in a format that will enable to officer in charge to progress their case.  Primarily this data is recovered from mobile phones, tablets, laptop and desk top computers and associated storage devices. Eforensics staff use specialist equipment to convert the data from devices into a format that investigators can interpret, and use in evidence.

Less frequently, Eforensics investigators also recover data from cameras, vehicles, sat nav’s, drones and just about any other electronic device that can retain data.

All types of investigations conducted by the force can require digital forensic support, from Serious RTC to Murder, drugs offences to stalking and harassment.

Applicants must be aware that a proportion of their work is likely to involve child sexual abuse investigation. Post holders must be prepared to handle materials that may be offensive and distressing, and be willing to be trained as an indecent image of children image grader.

Successful candidates are likely to hold a good Digital Forensic first degree or compatible industry experience that demonstrates an apltitude for digital forensics. Applications are welcomed from candidates approaching the end of their final year at university.

Once fully trained and some experience has been gained, members of the team routinely attend warrants to provide tactical advice to investigation teams. Digital evidence is often given directly to the investigating officer so good written and oral communication skills are important in this role.

This post is subject to an enhanced level of vetting (MV) which must be satisfied before appointment

The post holder must be prepared to work unsocial hours, weekends and bank holidays on occasion. The post is offered with a standard flexi-time contact. Applicants should be aware that the role could become a shift work role within the next 2 years, subject to appropriate staff consultation procedures. 

Notwithstanding the details in this job description, the job holder may be required to undertake other duties up to a level consistent with the principal responsibilities of the job.

The role requires a large training investment which includes period’s spent out of force to attend specialist training courses.
