Special Constables are volunteers who work with and support Cheshire Constabulary to achieve the force priorities and objectives.

Special Constables come from all walks of life, we currently have: teacher, taxi drivers, accountants and secretaries all working for the Special Constabulary.

As a Special Constable, you are required to volunteer a minimum of 16 hours a month. You will be a vital link between the regular police force and the local community.

Once you have completed training, you have the same powers as regular officers and wear the same uniform. Undergoing the training and then undertaking patrols makes a welcome break from day-to-day life, bringing excitement and challenge with every day you volunteer.

Cheshire Constabulary is fully supportive of diversity, equality and inclusion and strives to employ a workforce which is representative of the community it serves. The Equality Act 2010 supports individuals within specific underrepresented groups, known as the nine protected characteristics. It seeks to ensure that they can compete with other applicants on an equal basis to secure employment. Underrepresented groups include;

  • People of ethnic minority
  • Individuals who identify as having a visible or invisible disability
  • Gender in relation to female representation.
  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender + (LGBT+)
  • All other characteristics protected by the Equality Act 2010

We want great officers and we also encourage individuality. We want you to be you.
