Job description  

 

Cheshire Constabulary Fleet Services are responsible for keeping the Police moving with its fleet of nearly 750 vehicles (everything from cars and vans to motorbikes cycles and boats) and has an exciting opportunity for a Vehicle Technician to join the Fleet Services team in supporting the front line of Cheshire Constabulary.

Advert Text: Cheshire Constabulary Fleet Services are responsible for keeping the force moving on a daily basis with its fleet of nearly 900 vehicles everything from cars and vans to motorbikes and boats clocking up 10 million miles a year.

Our vehicles clock up 10 million miles a year and a team of highly skilled and enthusiastic individuals keeps this fleet of vehicles on the road. The team were featured in Series 1 of the Dave TV programme “Cop Car Workshop”. 

Based at Cheshire Constabulary Headquarters in Winsford, or out on the road in our mobile fleet support van, we are looking for a Vehicle Technician with excellent vehicle repair and maintenance skills. The role is demanding with a high level of manual handling, stretching and bending and working in awkward positions such as vehicle footwells involved. With such a diverse fleet, experience on multiple vehicle makes will be an advantage. The role requires a full UK Driving license. You will also need to be a qualified vehicle technician up to at least City and Guilds Level 3 or equivalent in Motor Vehicle Repair.

The ideal candidate will have experience on cars and vans including large vans, be adept at servicing and repairs and be able to work to standard times. Good diagnostic skills will be required.  Experience of vehicle electrical system repair and diagnosis would be advantageous. You will need to have a “can do” attitude and good customer service skills. The role is focussed on repairing vehicles to maintain a high level of vehicle availability to support front line Policing.

The working hours are 37 per week starting at 8am. Finish time is 4pm Monday to Thursday and 3:30pm on Fridays. Overtime is very limited and is voluntary on an ad-hoc basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

·     Minimum entry requirement - BTec, City & Guilds Level 3, or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles or with equivalent relevant experience.

·     GCSE Maths and English – Level 4 or above (or equivalent Functional Skills)

·     Completed a broad range of vehicle manufacturer training courses and have pass certificates.

·     Trained in a variety of workshop equipment and have pass certificates.

·     Hold a full UK Manual Driving License.

 

EXPERIENCE

Minimum 3 years post apprenticeship. Must be up to date experience on recent / current vehicles, working as a vehicle technician in a Dealership, Fleet or Independent Vehicle Workshop
