Job description  

 

Cheshire Constabulary Fleet Services are responsible for keeping the Police moving with its fleet of nearly 750 vehicles (everything from cars and vans to motorbikes cycles and boats) and has an exciting opportunity for a Class C&E driver to support the collection and delivery of Police vehicles throughout the county of Cheshire.

Working out of Cheshire Constabulary Headquarters in Winsford, we are looking for an experienced driver who can deal with the movement of vehicles to and from various locations in the county. Sometimes this will be moving the vehicles on a truck, other times driving the vehicles themselves. Some qualifications from the Institute of Vehicle Recovery (IVR) would be advantageous. 

This role will also require you to provide some mechanical and electrical repairs for minor defects on vehicles and as such vehicle repair experience would be advantageous although training can be provided following a successful application.

The ideal candidate will provide a professional and customer-focused support service and be willing to work outside in all weathers and have a “can do” attitude.

You will provide assistance to workshop management in the daily logistics planning of vehicular movements both within and outside county boundaries to maximize efficiency taking into consideration Force priorities .

The ideal candidate will meet the requirements outlined in the experience and qualifications section in the role profile attached to this advert and the application should be able to evidence strong communication skills, the ability to both work independently and as part of a team as well as demonstrating their previous Class 1 knowledge and experience.

The Vehicle Recovery Technician role covers Monday to Friday and offers fixed working hours (Mon – Thurs 8am – 4pm, Friday 8-3.30pm), however there may be a requirement to start earlier or finish later on a time off in lieu basis.

Cheshire Constabulary will work hard to ensure you learn a range of skills in this post. There is opportunity for both vertical and horizontal promotion. We can also offer a range of courses to improve your skillset, both in-house and externally. If you are selected for interview, in addition to the standard proof of identification documents you will need to bring your driving license and certificates for your qualifications. 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Must hold HGV License Class C and E
  • Minimum 1 year HGV Driving Experience

 

Experience:

  • Ability to problem solve and work independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to take a flexible approach to tasks and work on own initiative
  • Must be a time served technician (Note – Training can be provided post employment)
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Computer literate ability
