Positive Action Support

Through our commitment to Diversity, Equality and Inclusion, we’re making sure that Cheshire’s community policing better reflects the public it serves.

We are looking to welcome more women, people across all age groups, people from black and ethnic minority backgrounds, LGBT+ and those living with a disability into our policing family.

We want great employees and we also encourage individuality.

We’re proud of the success we’ve had in this important area of work, but it is vital that we acknowledge that we can do more.

We’re committed to recruiting people from a wider range of backgrounds and experiences – and helping them to progress in their careers with us.

Positive action allows us to lawfully help level the playing field for everyone to apply for a career within policing.

By supporting individuals with protected characteristics and giving them access to support and training in preparation for and throughout our recruitment process, we can help minimise any potential disadvantages they may face during their recruitment journey.

The two main Positive Action support initiatives that we have in place are:

  • The Insight programme, a series of workshops to learn more about the force, improve your confidence and provide awareness of recruitment processes. It is aimed at potential future officers and staff who identify having a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010.
  • The Buddy Scheme works in conjunction with the Insight Programme. A process where you will be matched with an appropriate ‘Buddy’ to create a professional relationship, who can offer advice and give you the confidence to progress through all stages of the recruitment process, as well as their first year of employment.

You can help us make a difference - simply by being the individual that you are.
