Police Constable Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP)

If you want to join Cheshire Constabulary as a Police Officer and you already hold a degree, then the Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP) is the route for you.

Who can apply?

Degree holders – or students within the final year of study for a degree – can apply to our Degree Holder Entry Programme. You can have a degree in any subject area.

What is DHEP?

Our DHEP pathway into policing will build on your academic achievements to date, helping you to graduate with a Level 6 Diploma in Policing Practice over a two-year work-based training programme. You will receive supported off-the-job learning, and protected time for study, this vocational course will prepare you perfectly for your policing career combining a great combination of academic and practical study.

DHEP is a level 6 programme, jointly delivered by Cheshire Constabulary officers and academic teams at University of Chester. This partnership gives you practical on-the-job learning alongside academic theory. You will be employed as an officer from day one, making a difference to our communities, and earning whilst you’re learning

What’s involved in the DHEP?

The degree-holder entry programme covers a range of professional education for the Police Constable role not present in any previous training programme. In the first year you will commence the initial phase of training, 20 weeks, followed by a period in company with a Tutor Constable. The course combines operational duty with protected learning time.
