Unique Opportunity for Detective Chief Inspector.

Cheshire Constabulary is an innovative, ambitious and progressive force and we are seeking an experienced high calibre substantive Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) to join our force and specifically as Deputy SIO (PIP 3 Homicide Accredited) to work on our large scale multiple infant murder and attempted murder investigation.  This investigation is one of significant national prominence and one that will provide both professional and personal challenge and reward. The investigation and successful candidate will be dedicated to the Investigation which is run within our Major Crime Directorate and based in Chester.

You will be leading and Deputising as appropriate on a sensitive and challenging investigation across the force area and beyond investigating the murder and attempted murder of infants. You will oversee with the SIO various functions of the Investigation including MIR / investigation strands including exhibit management, disclosure management, digital media investigations, witness and suspect management.

We are seeking applications from a suitable candidate who would embrace this opportunity to work for Cheshire and be dedicated to the once in a career investigation. The successful candidate will be recruited directly into the investigation for an initial 3 year period and upon conclusion of the investigation will then be subject to redeployment within Cheshire. We will also consider applications for a 3 year minimum secondment basis (support must be sought from your home force prior to applying).

We are seeking to appoint an officer with the following experience. Please supply 1500 words evidencing the below areas:

  • Significant experience of successfully investigating Homicide and Serious and Complex crime
  • Current Accreditation and Competence as a National PIP 3 Homicide SIO with a proven track record as a Detective / Investigator across ranks and career.
  • Experience of liaison and management of multiple stakeholders across force boundaries.
  • Experience of overseeing the following Homicide strategies / investigation strands.
    • Family Liaison / Coordination.
    • Disclosure and Exhibit Management.
    • HOLMES / MIR.
    • Witness, Suspect and Victim Management.
    • Passive Data, Digital Media and Intelligence.
    • Major Investigation File Building and Criminal Justice requirements.

Further eligibility criteria for any candidate applying is as follows;

  • Be a serving police officer with a Home Office force.
  • Have a full driving licence.
  • Have no outstanding PSD, discipline or integrity issues.
  • Meet the force attendance criteria and be committed to achieving high levels of attendance.  

You will be required to work primarily on a Monday to Friday daytime shift pattern and from the Investigatory base at Chester, however, there will be a requirement to work/share duty time across Cheshire and Manchester due to a lengthy trial 2022/23 in Manchester. Please note that this post is subject to an enhanced vetting level.
